La Charra
La Charra
Because I follow pro rodeo and have for years, Instagram chose a while back to include the charrerria in my scrolls. I think maybe in the back of my mind I was aware of this sport but not really. As I began to see how these women in the Mexican version of a rodeo, beautifully dressed in intricately designed costumes with their huge sombreros and riding sidesaddle, put their large horses through their paces and sometimes performed as a group, I became more and more intrigued.
I think probably any artist can tell you that they have so many paintings they want to create and never enough time and I am one of them. The more I began to delve into this sport and these women, the more I knew I had to paint one. And, so, La Charra came into being. I first painted a little 12" x 12" study to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into before embarking on the larger 24" x 24" piece. The study is also available here on my site.
I thank you so much for taking a look and would love to hear your thoughts on this piece. I always welcome questions or comments.
Best,
Jo
